"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
I have recently graduated from high school! The plan for my first year of "independence" includes something which is rather different than the norm when it comes to the typical American high school graduate. I am going to spend a year in Sweden working as an au pair! While living there I plan on taking a Swedish language course from a univeristy, but I am also going to be taking a few online classes from a college here in the USA. This may seem like a lot to handle for a farm girl who is a recent graduate, but I am a very adventurous and independent person, and I can't wait for this experience.
Luckily I won't be completely alone in this foreign country. My family has hosted several foreign exchange students, and to my advantage, one of my 'sisters' is living in the same town as I am! I also have a 'brother' who is about an hour away by train from where I'll be.
Throughout this blog I'll update you on the latest of my excursions, and describe the culture shock I'm sure to feel, the good things that happen, the bad (but hopefully that doesn't happen) and I'll strive to truly give an inside look of what life is like for an American teen who is living and working in another country.
